Tasks are units of work inside projects. They help teams plan, assign, track, and complete delivery work.

What a Task Contains

A task can include:

  • Project.
  • Title and description.
  • Status.
  • Priority.
  • Due date.
  • Assignees.
  • Dependencies.
  • Effort and progress.
  • Comments and attachments.

Task Fields

TitleShort action-oriented task name.
ProjectThe project where the task belongs.
AssigneePerson responsible for completing the work.
PriorityUrgency or importance, such as low, medium, high, or urgent.
StatusCurrent work state.
Due dateExpected completion date.
DescriptionDetails, acceptance criteria, or implementation notes.

Task Status

Use task status to reflect the actual work state. Common states include backlog, todo, in progress, blocked, in review, and done. Status names may vary based on workspace configuration.

Common Workflows

Create a Task

  1. Open a project or the Tasks area.
  2. Create a task.
  3. Add a clear title and description.
  4. Set priority and due date.
  5. Assign the right team member.
  6. Save the task.

Manage Task Progress

  1. Open the task.
  2. Update status as work moves forward.
  3. Add comments or files when context changes.
  4. Update due date or assignee if needed.
  5. Mark complete when done.

Assign the Best Person

When choosing an assignee, consider:

  • Required skills.
  • Current workload.
  • Project familiarity.
  • Job role.
  • Availability.

Good Task Descriptions

A useful task description includes:

  • What needs to be done.
  • Where the work belongs.
  • Expected outcome or acceptance criteria.
  • Relevant technical or business context.
  • Due date or priority when known.
